Step 3: Why Are You Fighting Your Drug Addiction?
Like mentioned in Step 2, another thing you will notice at almost all drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are lists made-up by people fighting their drug addiction. These lists may include all of the harmful effects of your drug addiction, the positive changes you want in your life after you beat your drug addiction, or lists containing solid reasons to stick to your drug rehab plan for the long run. While all of these lists are recommended, we are going to focus on a list of reasons to stick to your drug rehab plan. Your reasons for fighting your drug addiction must be more important to you than continuing your addictive behavior. In large text, write down the true, solid reasons you’re stopping this habit. Some examples may include:
- You’re quitting because you want to be a better person for your family and friends.
- You’re quitting because you want to have energy to live life to the fullest again.
- You’re quitting because you’re running out of money to support your drug addiction.
Once you have your list of reasons, make several copies and hang them around your home. Completely surround yourself with these reasons.
