Step 4: Don’t Rationalize With Yourself
Anyone who has ever suffered through a drug addiction know how mentally and physically painful it can be. It’s only natural that you will try to convince yourself to ditch the treatment program and jump back on the wagon. You must do everything in your power to ignore that voice. Common rationalizations include telling yourself things like “just one more time” or “we all have to die sometime.” One of the best ways to overcome these rationalizations is resorting back to your list you made in Step 3. Think about why quitting is more important than giving in to your drug addiction.
